Tax Form 8453 Help

Why must I file the tax Form 8453?

Your electronically filed tax return is not considered complete, and therefore not filed, until the IRS receives the signed tax Form 8453. Your signature allows the IRS to disclose to the ERO and/or transmitter the reason(s) for a delay i processing the tax return or refund.

If you are applying for a refund anticipation loan or RAL or similar product, your signature also allows the IRS to advise the ERO and/or transmitter if a refund offset may occur.

Part III of the tax Form 8453

Part III of the tax Form 8453 is the declaration of the ERO and paid preparer. The IRS requires the ERO's signature. A paid preparer must sign tax Form 8453 in the space for Paid Preparer's Use Only. But if the paid preparer is also the ERO, he or she does not complete the paid preparers section. Instead, the box labeled "Check if also paid preparer" is checked.
